Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews, and Kelly (2007) defined grit as “perseverance and passion for long-term goals.” Specifically, grit was defined as incorporating two factors: 1) Consistency of interest, and 2) Perseverance of effort. introduced grit as a personality trait which could partially account for William James' (1907) observations that some individuals were able to accomplish more than others of similar intelligence. While we do not disagree with Stokas (2015) and others that the concept is imbued with many political and social meanings, or that collective support systems play a major role in academic success, we see great value in grit as a personality trait that can predict academic performance across various backgrounds, much in the same way that self-efficacy has been shown to. Others have argued that the current, renewed focus on grit neglects more important socioeconomic variables that undermine minority performance (see articles on the subject by Cohen, 2015, Kohn, 2014 and Thomas, 2014). Stokas (2015) has argued that the dominant class from Teddy Roosevelt's era embraced grit as a way for the privileged class to justify their position, relative to the majority of individuals who lacked the same supports and lived a tough life by today's standards. Although Duckworth reignited interest in the personality construct, grit has been invoked for many years to champion traits such as perseverance and the determination to overcome setbacks. Hence, it is concluded that Short Grit Scale is valid and reliable to be tested on Indonesian millennial.Grit has become a key concept in the educational arena thanks in large part to the work of Angela Duckworth and colleagues. While the composite reliability set was 0.82. Moreover, Short Grit Scale (Grit-S) was also proven to be valid and reliable with 2 = 20.97 probability value = 0.138 RMSEA = 0.045 CFI = 0.972 GFI = 0.976 and AGFI = 0.941. Structural Moment (AMOS) and proved to be valid. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed using Analysis of Using 200 millennial in Surabaya, Indonesia, as research subjects, this research was conducted between April and July 2019. Grit Scale has proven to be valid when it tested on military cadets in the USA however, in order to obtain more validity, it needs to be tested again in Indonesia. It is also developed to optimize employees’ performance in some corporations hence, it also encompasses the study of industrial and organizational psychology and includes some dimensions of perseverance and passion. As commonly known, Grit performs as a research variable in the field of personality psychology, and educational psychology. This study aims to test the validity and reliability of Grit as a measuring device which was initially developed by Duckworth and Quinn (2009).
